7 Ways to Relieve Back Pain During Pregnancy

Back pain, especially lower back pain, is exremely common during pregnancy due to the sheer number of physical changes that occur. Added weight means that the back has to support a larger load, especially if the woman was already overweight before the pregnancy. There is also a change in the woman's center of gravity triggers, pelvic changes, loose joints caused by pregnancy hormones, poor posture, and stress. All of these changes happen to the body rapidly causing pain and discomfort for many women.

However, it doesn't have to be this way. There are lifestyle changes and natural treatment options that can help women feel more comfortable while they are pregnant.

1. Exercise regularly

Regular exercise allows the back to stretch and relax, and stimulates circulation. This can be especially effective for a woman whose back pain is primarily caused by stress. There are even exercises that are geared towards pregnant woman. An added benefit is that regular exercise can also help your body prepare for child birth. Be sure to consult your doctor before starting a new exercise routine.

2. Wear flat, comfortable shoes

An obvious solution to back pain triggered by poor posture and standing for long periods of time is making sure to wear proper shoes. Shoes should support the arch of the foot and be low-heeled and comfortable. Often, pregnant women even have to go up a shoe size because of the swelling caused by the increase of blood and fluids in the body.

3. Do not sleep on your back

Sleeping on your back puts unnatural pressure on your spine because the added weight leans directly on the problem area. Sleeping on your side takes the pressure off your back. Ideally you should also place a pillow or cushion between your knees to give your body extra support while you sleep. It will make a tremendous difference the next day.

4. Pay attention to your posture

Poor posture is one of the leading causes of back pain for anyone. During pregnancy, women are prone to poor posture because of the extra weight they now carry in front of their body. Their body must adjust to its new form, and women should be particularly careful to keep their shoulders back and head up.

5. Acupressure

Acupressure is a form of alternative medicine, and a pregnant woman who chooses accupressure treatment should only be treated by a professional practitioner that specialized in dealing with pregnancy. The practitioner will know how to apply pressure to specific points on the woman's body to relieve her back pain. Used incorrectly, acupressure can put a woman into labor. Used properly, it can provide the ultimate pain relief.

6. Massage therapy

Massage therapy for pregnant women is growing increasingly popular. An experienced massage therapist will know precisely how to position a woman's growing body safely for the massage. The massage therapist can utilize special techniques to reduce swelling, stress, and back pain. Gentle massage can be performed by anyone but it is best to see a professional to get the most relief for back pain.

7. Chiropractic care

In addition to typical back adjustments, a chiropractor can offer professional advice for stretching exercises and posture techniques that a woman can practice at home. The chiropractor can also advise on proper support gear, and provide manipulation to massage muscles and "pop" the joints in place. A a doctor of chiropractic that has experience with pregnant women can provide relief for many pregnancy-related aches and pains. An experienced doctor will know how to take precautions to prevent unnecessary pressure on the abdominal area, while attaining maximum relief.

7 Habits to Help You Lose Post Pregnancy Weight Fast!

Losing weight is hard enough - but it can be especially challenging after you've had a child. Even if you lost everything else (your mind, your sanity, and even a few precious pounds) you're still carrying around that unbelievably difficult to get rid of pooch- and it's driving you insane! Below are a few tips to help you kick start your weight loss. Try incorporating each one, one day at a time, and consciously practice them until they become habit.

o Begin with "intent." Don't be random about your weight loss plan - set a goal. Even if it's a small daily goal (no cookies today), know what it is and keep this awareness about you throughout the day. Repeat your goal out loud or in your head over and over until you're saying it without even realizing it. Repetition builds confidence and reinforcement.

o Pause before you eat a snack - reflect upon how you feel after you eat this snack. Close your eyes and picture the process you go through post-snack (regret? disgust? lethargy? your emotional reaction to eating?).

o Don't wait to cheat. If you're a notorious diet cheater, plan to cheat and get it out of the way immediately! I almost always cheat on the first day of a new diet - it spares me the heartache a week later after I've actually lost a pound or two. You've already created the expectation for yourself, now just fulfil it a little earlier than planned so you can file it away.

o Eat something healthy before you eat the snack. It's OK to eat the snack but you must eat the health food first (cucumber, fruit salad, yogurt, etc). Eventually, when you crave the snack food, you will almost immediately crave the healthy food as well. Eventually, you will be content just eating the health food and skipping the snack.

o If you're not already drinking 5-8 glasses of water a day you are doing yourself a great disservice. Not only will it leave your skin clear and glowing, but it will keep your stomach feeling full, fulfil that need to have something in your mouth, AND help properly process the food you consume. Place a different water bottle in every location where you spend time (bedroom, car, office, tv room) so that you're always reaching for it.

o Do something while you're doing nothing. Are you lying on the couch watching TV? Do some leg lifts (and be sure to always pull your stomach in when you do this to strengthen your core). Are you washing dishes? Stand on one leg and lift yourself up onto the ball of your foot to strengthen your calf muscles. Continue switching legs. Are you on the phone? Walk around your house, or up and down the stairs, or stand still while doing plies.

o Go for fake sugar. There are some really tasty sugar free drinks on the market as well as yummy sugar free snacks, like chocolate pudding and cookies. Try substituting ice cream for ice pops or buying natural frozen fruit bars. These foods will still fulfill your sugar cravings.

You don't need to attempt all of these at once to lose weight fast - habits take time to develop. Choose one or two that seem easy and try them for a week...then 2 weeks, then 3 weeks. Soon enough you will be doing them without thinking about it. Adopt a new habit when you are feeling confident and strong and ready to tackle the task at hand!

Major Medical Insurance Coverage

Major medical insurance plans include coverage for almost all types of medical care which one needs. An individual may select a single coverage for oneself, or select the two-person or limited family coverage for oneself and his / her spouse or the one dependent child. Family medical coverage is a scheme covering the entire family.

Major medical insurance coverage is usually provided for all the critical areas such as doctor visits, preventative care, diagnostic tests, hospital and extended care, emergency, prescription drugs, home health care etc. Depending on how much one can pay or what one's family health history is, other less common areas of coverage like vision care, care by specialists, mental health care, family planning services, chronic disease care, physical therapy, maternity care, and baby care can be added.

If one has a single coverage, the spouse can be included on the policy by submitting an application within 31 days after the marriage. Coverage for a newborn or adopted child can be effected by applying within 60 days of the birth or adoption. In the case of family coverage, a new born or adopted child is covered automatically. Coverage is effective from the first month following the receipt of the application form. The coverage terminates when one loses the eligibility for the state group health insurance program. Coverage ends for the spouse at the time of divorce and coverage ends for the dependent children at the end of the calendar year in which they turn age 19 or on the date they marry.

Major medical insurance coverage includes managed-care health plans and indemnity health plans. Indemnity health plan focuses on unexpected illnesses and always allows the patient to choose the physician.

Multiple Miscarriages - There is Hope After Suffering Multiple Miscarriages

Although dealing with multiple miscarriages can be devastating for some women, there is hope. Modern medicine does not know everything. We now have access to many different methods of helping or eliminating the growing problem of multiple miscarriages.

Miscarriages can be caused by any number of things, but the most common is a chromosomal abnormality. In fact, nearly 70% of miscarriages are caused by this and 95% of fertilized eggs or embryos with genetic problems are rejected before the mother is even aware of being pregnant. It is natures' way of making sure only the fittest survive.

The second most common reason for miscarriage is hormonal imbalances or abnormalities. This is usually solved by prescribing drugs to regulate hormones in the mother. Other reasons are, illness of the mother, abnormalities of the uterus or cervix, immune system disorders or bacterial vaginosis. There are also pre-existing conditions that cause miscarriages, such as diabetes, high blood pressure and kidney or heart problems. It is important to get a pre-conception appointment to help avoid some of these common causes.

However, many women suffering multiple miscarriages are just told that there is no answer. At least not one that does not include expensive surgeries, drugs with side effects or, in general painful and time-consuming procedures. That is, if you have insurance! If you do not, then your options are extremely limited. What if there were a way to significantly improve your chances of solving your problem with multiple miscarriages? Would it be worth your time and effort? Most women would say yes.

Having dealt with a miscarriage and being in the high risk category or pregnancy, I searched for something or someone that would help improve my chances of carrying to full term. Thankfully, due to the sharing of information on the internet, we now have access to many different methods of treating and even eliminating some infertility issues, including the problem of multiple miscarriages.

Implantation Bleeding During Pregnancy

Any woman will testify that pregnancy is a blissful time. However, most of the time, during pregnancy, a woman is always pushed into a state of worry and bewilderment. One such situation is of implantation bleeding during pregnancy. Is it an onset of period? Is this an indication of an unknown issue? Or is it all the way a new phenomenon? Normally, a slight bleeding during pregnancy can invite tension for a woman. However, such bleeding can be even normal too.

There are several cases wherein women experience bleeding during their pregnancy especially in the first trimester. This is quite normal to happen with some 10 percent women noticing such spotting or slight bleeding. But, this bleeding is not the one which you get in your period. When you are nurturing a life in the uterus, your body takes care of that baby and so the brain transmits messages as signals of not menstruating to the uterus. In most cases, a slight spotting or bleeding when pregnant is okay and is not at all harmful for the baby nor for the would be mother. But, there are certain risks that are linked with the bleeding, more particularly in the later pregnancy stages. Therefore, it is very much vital to know about the factors leading to bleeding that if not in limit, need a minute and timely vigilance.

If you have just entered into the pregnancy stage, you might spot some scanty and brownish discharge and you might take that as your period. However, that is not period, but implantation bleeding. Many women will experience this slight discharge within 10 to 14 days of fertilization. This happens because the fertilized egg is implanting in the endometrial lining of the uterus. As the fertilized ovum is about to reach its home in the uterus, it might upset the lining resulting in slight bleeding. This implantation bleeding during pregnancy tend to remain for some days, say three days, and is quite light as opposed to the periods.

Is There Something to Worry?

Implantation bleeding during pregnancy is not something to take tension of. Rather, it is a sign of joy because it might be a sign of pregnancy. In the early stages of pregnancy, the cervix adjusts so that the baby is taken care of. The body supplies more blood to cervix due to which bleeding can take place. Even this is not abnormal and it is not something to conclude that your baby is facing problems. However, only if you bleed heavily and that too for over some days, then consult the doctor.

Sometimes, implantation bleeding during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester, can be quite heavy indicating a problem for your baby. This is more an indication of miscarriage. About 15 to 20 percent pregnancies terminate as miscarriages that occur in the first three months of pregnancy. If bleeding is experienced with fever, chilliness, and severe cramping; then this is surely a miscarriage.

Further, bleeding during early stages might also be a signal of other serious issues for the baby. One such issue is ectopic pregnancy taking place in every 1 of 60 cases of pregnancies. It can take the life of the mother and baby too. In this condition, critical internal bleeding takes place. Therefore, one must never delay in going to the doctor.

Bleeding is also sometimes seen during the second and third trimesters, which is certainly not due to menses. This bleeding takes place mostly due to cervix infection and yes there are chances of miscarriage and preterm labor as well as stillbirth. So, you need to immediately consult a doctor in such cases without fail.

Pregnancy - The Ins And Outs Of Maternity Leave And Care!

There was a time no so long ago when it was acceptable for women to be discriminated against in the workplace if they were pregnant. Employers would even ask if a woman was planning to have children in the near future as it could be a basis for whether or not they got hired, but these times are, for the most part, a thing of the past. This is now considered a form of discrimination and is illegal. It is important to know your rights in the workplace though, in case anyone does try to take them from you.

Pregnancy is protected by rights of gender, which means a woman is protected from being asked if she is currently, or plans to soon be pregnant.

Women are also protected from being fired, demoted, or laid off because they are pregnant.

A woman cannot be denied renting an apartment or house because she is pregnant except in the case of communities designated as adult or senior only residences.

A pregnant woman cannot be denied at a public place, such as a restaurant, school, or hospital because she is pregnant.

One thing to know in regards to maternity leave in the workplace is the woman's right to leave when she chooses. If she becomes unable to do the job it is the employer's responsibility to modify the work environment where possible so she can work without harm. A woman cannot be forced to take maternity leave earlier than she planned.

Negative comments from customers or other staff about an employee's pregnancy cannot be used as reason to fire, demote, lay off, or force early maternity leave.

It is also important to do research on the laws in your specific state. Most require that an employer continue to pay health related premiums during maternity leave if they are paid for normal sick time.

Another thing to consider upon finding out you are pregnant is to determine the type of maternity care you wish to receive. There are now many options available for childbirth, from water births, to at home births, to using a midwife, or the traditional hospital. Keep in mind that whichever is the best fit for you and your pregnancy, maternity care also refers to post-natal care. Also, in the event of a problem during labor, a plan should be laid out to determine what to do in the case of an emergency.

I Can't Get Pregnant With a Boy Baby - Tips and Advice That May Help You Conceive a Son

I'm commonly emailed from couples who believe that they are unable to conceive one gender over another either because girls or boys run in their family, or because, in the past, they've only been able to conceive one specific gender. (For example, they have a house full of girls, but no boys.) Yesterday, I received such an email from a very nice woman who basically asked: "I have conceived three girls and I love them with all my heart, but this time around, I really want to conceive a boy and give my husband a son. Is this possible since I seem predisposed to conceiving girls?"

I responded that it is very possible. Using the right techniques and tools, there is no reason you can't conceive either gender. If girls run in your family or you believe that you are unable to conceive a boy, there are a few things that we can look at and change to greatly increase your odds of a son. I will discuss these things below.

Why You May Be Predisposed To Conceiving Girls: Natural gender selection really comes down to one thing - which sperm chromosome makes it to and fertilizes the egg first. If you keep getting pregnant with girls, either the cards of fate could be dealing you daughters or, there may be a specific reason that the X sperm chromosomes (which produces baby girls) keeps winning out.

There are basically three variables that determine whether the X or the Y chromosome win: the timing of your conception; the sexual positions that you use to conceive, and the PH / acidity of the mother. In my experience, most women who have been unable to conceive a boy typically have a high PH. This scenario will greatly favor girls because boy or Y sperm can not survive in an acidic environment. Many times, I've seen women drastically change their PH and then be able to get a boy baby. I'll discuss these variables - one by one - below.

A Look At The Calendar For A Baby Boy Conception: I often have people email me and ask what part of the month is best to conceive a son. When I make mention of the timing of the month corresponding with a time in a woman's fertility cycle, I'm sometimes met with a bit of confusion. I know it sounds very basic, and please bear with me if you already know this, but what the calendar says really doesn't matter. What ultimately matters is when you conceive in relation to when you ovulate.

If you are trying to conceive a male, it is vital that you do not try to conceive too early. As I've alluded to before, boy sperm are weak by nature. This is not anything that you did wrong. It is just the characteristic that nature gave the Y sperm to balance things out. To compensate for this, the boy sperm are also very fast, which you can use to your advantage.

For a baby boy conception, you'll need to conceive on the day of ovulation. And, if you've had trouble with this, ask yourself how well the ovulation prediction methods you've used in the past have worked. I firmly believe that techniques which require guessing (rhythm method, basal temperature, and cervical mucus charting) should be abandoned for methods that spell it out for you with more accuracy - like saliva or urine ovulation predictors. (I prefer saliva over urine since you can test at any time and you can reuse the saliva models.)

Consider Changing The Sexual Positions That You've Been Using To Conceive: Remembering that the boy sperm are weak, you need to use sexual positions that place the sperm as close to it's intended destination as you can. This means deeper penetration. Often, I find that couples will try to conceive using the intercourse positions that worked to get them pregnant the last time. This is fine if gender is not important to you, but if you want a boy, use rear entry or positions in which the woman angles and elevates her legs to allow for a deeper deposit. Using a pillow under your pelvic area can help also.

It's All About Your Acidity: Of these three variables, I believe that this is the most important one. I truly believe that if you've only conceived girls in the past, the first culprit that you should check is your PH. Boy sperm will quickly deteriorate and die off if your PH is too high and checking this is as easy as getting PH testing strips and then conducting the test as directed. This will tell you very quickly if you are naturally acidic (and most women are, but women prone to conceiving girls are usually even more so.)

Don't be discouraged if this bears true for you, because you can change your level with a bit of diligence. There are basically two ways to go about this, but if your reading is very high and you want fast results, consider using both methods at once. You can either go on an alkaline / low PH diet or douche with solutions meant to lower your PH. There are food lists and douche recipes that can outline this. Baking soda is usually not enough. I know it's very commonly used, but if you use baking soda and then use the testers again, you'll usually see that your reading did not change all that dramatically. What usually does bring about the most dramatic changes is using the the douching and diet as sort of a one / two punch, used aggressively at the same time.

I know this can seem overwhelming, but it doesn't need to be. Use the tools available to you and approach this very methodically, addressing each variable until you're at the level or at the timing you need to finally conceive your son.
